Wellness & Preventative Care

This is where it all begins! Routine check-ups and preventative care are the foundation of your pet’s healthy life. We recommend that all adult pets get a yearly physical exam and that seniors be seen every six months. Depending on your pet’s age and medical history, routine diagnostics such as bloodwork and X-rays may also be a part of your pet’s preventative care. Regular exams allow us to closely monitor your pet’s health and detect and address any potential problems as early as possible—and the earlier an issue is addressed, the better the outcome will be.

Your pet’s comprehensive nose-to-tail physical exam typically includes the following:

  • Dental health check. For puppies and kittens, doctors will monitor the growth of their teeth and jawbone for healthy development and alignment.
  • Palpation of lymph nodes. Lymph nodes are part of the immune system and can respond to infections, inflammation, or other health concerns. Abnormalities in size, texture, or consistency can be early indicators of various conditions.
  • Listen to heart and lung function.
  • Palpation of abdominal organs to identify illnesses such as kidney and liver disease. It also allows veterinarians to assess whether the dog experiences pain or discomfort in specific areas.
  • Check joints. Many large-breed dogs have OCD, and senior dogs and cats are prone to arthritis. Early detection can help us better manage the disease and provide pain relief as needed.
  • Skin and coat evaluation for parasites, tumors, and coat conditions.
  • Monitor the distribution of muscles and fat. Some endocrine disorders can impact the distribution of fat and muscles.
  • Check eyes and ears for abnormality or infection.
  • Nutrition consultation based on the animal’s life stage, lifestyle, and health condition.
  • Behavior consultation. The number one reason for euthanasia in United States is behavioral issues. This is especially important for puppies and kittens to help them form healthy attachments, eating habits, and social skills. We love to help puppies and kittens to grow physically and emotionally

You’ll also have plenty of time to ask the doctor questions about your pet’s health. Give us a call to schedule your pet’s wellness exam today!
