At River Park Animal Hospital, we care deeply about your pet’s long-term health—not just during visits, but also at home. One of the most overlooked risks? The wrong type of dog chew or treat.
⚠️ Here are 3 dog treats we do NOT recommend:
Beef Trachea Chews
While these are popular, we’ve seen cases where dogs developed rare endocrine disorders like parathyroid gland overstimulation after prolonged use. Tracheas may still contain thyroid or parathyroid tissue, which can lead to serious hormonal imbalances.
Hard Bones and Deer Antlers
Though advertised as “natural” and long-lasting, hard chews like antlers or marrow bones often lead to broken teeth. Dental fractures are painful, costly, and may require extractions under anesthesia. Protect your dog’s smile—choose safer options.
High-Fat Treats (e.g. peanut butter, ice cream, bacon, fatty salmon)
These treats may seem fun, but high-fat foods are a major trigger for pancreatitis in dogs. Even small amounts can cause digestive upset, vomiting, or worse.
📍At River Park Animal Hospital, we’re proud to serve pet families in Sugar Land, Rosenberg, Richmond, and the surrounding areas, offering not only treatment but trusted preventive care and honest guidance.
