Why Dental X-Rays Matter

Why Dental X-Rays Matter

We need to see more than just the tip of the iceberg!

Not all veterinary facilities offer dental X-rays. But at River Park, they’re an essential part of every dental procedure, and we’re proud to provide dental radiography!

Here’s why X-rays should be a part of every pet’s dental procedure, every time:

  • 60% of a pet’s tooth is below the gumline. This means that without dental X-rays, you’re getting less than half the picture!
  • X-rays allow for the assessment of the structure of the tooth and jawbone, as well as the nasal cavity, sinuses, and surrounding areas.
  • Many teeth can look healthy to the naked eye but have issues like fractures or infection below the gumline. Without dental X-rays, these issues go undetected until they become severe and painful for the pet. At that stage, another procedure is necessary to take care of the problems that could have been addressed and corrected at the initial dental procedure!
